![]() ![]() Given Disney’s penchant for more family friendly rides, I was fully expecting the ride to be more of an immersive “dark ride” experience with a few coaster elements, similar to Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts at Universal Studios. All that I knew was that the ride would utilize technology that allowed the Omnicoaster ride vehicle cars to turn during the ride. Note that I went on Guardians of the Galaxy completely blind of the experience. We are greeted by a large Nova Corps Star Blaster at the front of the ride building. It was quite a site to see after having to detour past walls around it for the last few years. We proceed towards the Guardians of the Galaxy ride building, located to the left of Mission: SPACE. We decided to hop on Guardians of the Galaxy before indulging ourselves with food and drinks. For the After Hours event, there was a drink station at the front of the area, along with a few dessert stations going towards Mission: SPACE. Upon entering the park, we were guided to the World Discovery section of EPCOT. The event allowed us an opportunity to experience the new coaster, Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind, while avoiding the typical daytime Disney crowds. Well, the show started the same and then the new guys show up, which is fine. It was "under new management" of Iago and Zazu which didn't seem like a red flag. ![]() ![]() It usually involves eye contact, thinking to understand, reflecting, rephrasing, and other tools to keep us fully engaged and sending the message to the other party, “I am engaged and seeking to understand.” However, even at its best, this level of listening is still based upon relatability to our own individual experience or frame of reference. As the name indicates, this is the level at which we are paying attention to the other person and internalizing the message. This type of listening can frequently result in increased miscommunication and misunderstanding as the parties potentially hear different parts of the exchange.Īttentive listening is the level we should most frequently seek to achieve in our day-to-day interactions, especially in the work environment. The problem with this level is that we are only listening to parts of the message, and usually to respond with some kind of winning comeback. Selective listening is a step in the right direction, as it does involve at least a basic level of listening. When that happens, we’re caught! A definite withdrawal is made from the trust or emotional bank account of that relationship, and it’s only made worse when we try to cover it up. This works just fine until the person with whom we are speaking or to whom we are supposedly listening to asks a question related to what they were saying. At this level, we are at least giving the appearance of listening, as the name indicates. Pretending (patronizing) is the next level of listening. My wife and children can tell you how many times they have had to repeat my name or use varying titles to finally get my attention when I’m focused on something less important than engaging with them. It comes with not managing or even misusing my strength in focusing. Personally, this happens to be one of my greatest weaknesses, maybe even my Achilles heel. It is when we expend zero effort to listen. Ignoring is the most basic level of listening. There are actually five levels of listening: ignoring, pretending, selective listening, attentive listening and empathic listening. In his writings and trainings, he pointed out that there is more to it than either listening or not. Some years later, I had the opportunity to learn more about listening from the well-known author and business leader, Stephen R. What impressed me then, and still does now, is Tom’s impeccable example in modeling this critical characteristic. We came into this world with two ears, two eyes and one mouth. ![]() It was also pointed out to me by a great mentor, Tom Shimizu, that most of us were born to listen. Posted July 23rd, 2018 & filed under HR Elevated.Ī number of years ago, it was pointed out to me that the word ‘listen’ contains the exact same letters as the word ‘silent.’ I’ve often wondered if it’s a coincidence or serendipity. ![]() ![]() After a release like that the most important thing to do is admit their mistakes and plan out clearly how they intend to fix them, trying to get as much of the willing community on-board as they can. Bernd is the managing director and presumably has the final say on most things, and he has posted on either these or their forums maybe four or five times since the game released. I can't see any good reason to remain so silent - presumably there are business forces at play here, but after that godawful release, I'd think the only sensible option for the future of the game is to engage with the community as best possible to fix things. There's no word on economic fixes, station fixes, anything like that. We have very little idea of what they intend to do with the game, presumably because (as with release) it'll cause a backlash. This is how things have been - more or less completely silent - since well before release. ![]() Occasionally we get a bit of idle chit-chat or a little hint of ambition from Lino, but it's barely anything of note, nice though it may be. ![]() They neither ask for nor respond to feedback except in the very rarest of cases, normally regarding unimportant minor changes. To what meaningful extent? Every facet of actual game development is shrouded in almost absolute secrecy. Yes, they're only human - it's just that most don't feel they have to resort to such toxic, wanton deceit to fund their own out-of-touch ideals. But really, like most folk, above all they care about getting paid so they can get by. I guess Gamescom will clarify their ambitions. If they don't fix Rebirth, I can't imagine they'll ever make another "successful" release. If they care about their product, or even their reputation, they don't say or show it. They made a fast buck by deceit - their MetaCritic 33 game sold brilliantly, so it was a "huge success". They are rather like other companies, that much is clear. A fine mess they've made the forums - now it's largely a ghost-town. Nanook, one of the moderators on the forums who's been there for years, said Egosoft killed off swathes of their previous community with the toxic mess of Rebirth's release, whereas all previous releases added more. Their forums became a toxic mess and lots of people cleared off. I'm amazed people still cling to them, singing frantically about how the good old days will be back any time soon, that it'll all be alright in the end, that Egosoft really care, that they're not like other companies! They might have been supportive and engaged in the past, honest about their games, perhaps, but they've destroyed anything they got from that. They lied horribly in the run up to release, misleading tens of thousands, and 2.0's release was a similarly shameful attempt to flog more copies. They seem to follow their own perverse and confused design direction rather than perhaps engage with the community and see what they'd like (rather than what Bernd likes). Hooray.Įgosoft are slow, never really communicate, and don't really make much in the way of progress. In adding these things they managed to comprehensively screw up station building, something that's now been half-broken for months. Perhaps Lino didn't have much other work). Cockpits! (nice, but unnecessary at this barely-past-alpha stage). ![]() A handful of simple ship commands! (so simple it was ludicrous they took so long). Shaders! Radar! (the nicest addition, I think, yes, but that important with all the current issues?). It didn't feel like there was much in terms of significant fixes and progress compared to previous patches - rather just slightly unnecessary additions to get more sales. ![]() The game is still clearly unfinished and buggy, and they've mentioned no plans to address most of the big concerns. Yes, a few sorely needed but small things were fixed, and a few nice things added, but nothing big was really addressed. 2.0 was only really a frantic (and morally ugly) attempt to flog more copies of a still-incomplete and deeply flawed game, by pretending everything was fixed and finished and ready to buy - mainly by adding some glitzy, shallow window-dressing and putting a fancy trailer up. Seeing as they're calling it 2.5 and not 3.0, a patch like that, let alone a series of them, seems unlikely. If they made a few patches like that, perhaps the game would be in a state they could call "finished" sometime in the next six months to a year. The full integration of small and medium ships and a completely functional economy, with balanced player-economy interaction and player-stations with capable AI would be a start. At this rate I'd rather want it to contain more significant changes than 2.0 for it to seem worth the long downtime and (amazingly) quiet forums, quieter than even the usual Egosoft wall-of-silence. ![]() ![]() In 1971 the name "Apple Jacks" was put into action by advertisers. as "Apple O's" in 1965 after being invented by college intern William Thilly. territories, please call Goldman Sachs at 87 with questions about Apple Card.Kellogg's Apple Jacks – Sweetened Cereal with Apple & Cinnamon, with milkĪpple Jacks is an American brand of breakfast cereal that is produced by Kellogg's. The hand of that same arm cups the elbow of the patient to stabilize it in the anatomic position. This means all of the effort should come from your unaffected arm, bringing the affected arm. To fixate the shoulder girdle and thus isolate movement in the glenohumeral joint, place your thigh on the scapula and the contralateral arm over the patient’s chest. The following are passive exercises for your affected shoulder. These exercises are to help increase range of movement with some form of assistance. For external rotation, have the patient in upright sitting position. Use ice regularly for 20 minutes at a time. You can fixate the clavicle and scapula with your body and hand and then move into horizontal extension.Īt last, let’s examine the rotations in the glenohumeral joint. Shoulder flexion can be accomplished in one of two ways, through glenohumeral joint flexion, or through glenohumeral joint, scapular, and clavicular motion. Horizontal abduction is minimal at around 15°. Letting go of the scapula will allow you to move further across. With proper scapula fixation, you should reach end-range at around 110°. Fixate the scapula at the lateral border and bring the arm towards the midline of the body. We then refer to horizontal abduction and adduction.įor horizontal adduction, start with the arm in 90° abduction. If we let go of the fixation we should be able to move the arm further but will eventually have to externally rotate it slightly to reach end-range.Ībduction and adduction can not only happen in the frontal plane but also in the transversal plane. For abduction, the patient is again in sitting position and we will apply the same proximal fixation as with flexion. Then grasp the patient’s humerus as distal as possible and move it into forward flexion, which should be limited at around 80-90° for pure glenohumeral flexion. With the patient sitting on the bench, place one hand on the scapula and clavicle to fixate both. Let’s first look at forward flexion in the glenohumeral joint. ![]() ![]() Here I will quickly give you the names of the notes on the piano. I played like this because in AWL you can actually milk your cow twice a day and the dirt your crops are planted in will dry out at some point during the day, which leaves them being able to be watered again. But I see that less likely than Autodesk making Revit Mac-native. ![]() I see people running Revit on a Mac in the future because it's the combination they choose to. If I remember correctly, Autodesk had some people move their AutoCAD seats from Windows to Mac when they brought ACAD back to the Mac, but they also had an increase in their user base by gaining new users from the Mac world. I can only think something similar will happen if (preferably when) Revit is brought to the Mac.Įven if a Mac specific version of Revit is not developed, Microsoft's expansion to ARM processors, and AMD's looking to purchase ARM, combined with Intel's year's-long fumbling on development, ought to help push ARM into the mainstream on the Windows side. ![]() So surely you must accept that you can run more software that architects use on Windows. It's not just Revit, 3ds max and the full version of AutoCAD also don't run on MacOS. Now that Apple have given up on dedicated GPUs for their laptops and the Mini, it also rules out most 3D and rendering apps (Vray, Lumion, Twinmotion etc.). Even software available to run on MacOS (such as ArchiCAD and SketchUp) doesn't run as well as on a machine with dedicated graphics. Adobe software is the latest problem, because Apples block upgrades to their OS, even on quite recent MacBook Pros, which in turn blocks most Adobe apps on subscription. The workaround for the ones still with intel CPUs is to simply switch over to Windows, which will of course allow the Adobe software to be installed without a problem (even though it doesn't run as well as on a PC running Windows). Whenever I have a student with problem with these programs I generally can tell without asking that they are using a Mac. I've been teaching a whole range of architectural software as part of a degree program for many years, and I'm always amazed by the number of new students who falsely believe Apple computers are better for the work we do, when in fact the opposite is true. I have seen before my eyes a row of PC laptops (often fairly cheap but with dedicated graphics) seriously outperform much more expensive MacBook Pros sitting next to them, performing the same tasks. Then you have the glitches and poor UI (or UX) of the MacOS and the confusion created by the introduction of M1. ![]() |
